    As I experimented with tops of various weaves myself, I came to realize that a lot of the time you have to have a pretty loose weave for people to notice anything, unless they are already looking pretty directly at you.

    Someone who was bustier than you or I, and who was wearing something low-cut, would be attracting eyeballs, and people would already be looking closely and so would notice nipple through weave or nipple shadow.

    But you and I, unless we are wearing something deliberately small (such as a quite narrow band bra, or something cut high enough to show under-boob), people are probably not looking all that closely, so for us unless our nipples are a very distinct colour or they are literally poking out, then we could have fair portions of nipple exposed without people paying attention… at least in my experience, in my area.
